About StructLogic

StructLogic is a free toolkit for steel detailers, estimators, and fabricators who need quick, standards-aware answers during takeoff and drawing production. Bolt grip and edge distance, plate and bolt assembly weights, AISC shape and SJI joist lookups, fillet weld capacity, stair geometry, and DSTV / NC1 viewing all run in the browser — no CAD seat required for the checks you do dozens of times a day.

Detailing tools focus on connection geometry and shop drawings: grip length, minimum edge distance per AISC J3.4, slope conversion, stairs against IBC / OSHA / IRC toggles, gauge thickness, and PEMB hip and valley trim angles. Estimating tools turn those geometries into shipping and coating numbers — bolt assemblies, plate weight, feet-inch construction math, and paint gallons from AISC perimeters. Engineering checks cover mezzanine and crane runway beam sizing, weld strength, and gutter / downspout flow.

How to pick a tool

  • Connections and holes? Bolt Grip and Edge Distance for fastener length and AISC J3.4 edge rules; Shape Lookup for section properties on the drawing.
  • Takeoff and shipping? Plate Weight and Bolt Assembly Weight for material lists; Paint Estimator for coating gallons from beam perimeters.
  • Roofs and metal buildings? Hip & Valley Logic for unequal pitches; Slope Converter for pitch / degrees / percent; Construction Calculator for feet-inch field math.
  • Shop files? DSTV 3D Viewer inspects .nc1 / .nc profiles, holes, and notches before nesting. Pair it with the Reading DSTV / NC1 guide.

FAQ

Are StructLogic results stamped engineering?

No. These are estimating and detailing aids. Final member sizes, connections, and weld designs must follow your project engineer of record and the governing code edition.

Do I need Tekla or Advance Steel installed?

Not for these tools. Browser calculators and the DSTV viewer work from any machine with a modern browser. Export or nesting still happens in your fabrication software.

Which AISC or SJI data is included?

Shape Lookup covers common W, C, L, and HSS properties used in day-to-day detailing. Joist Lookup includes standard K- and LH-series seats and weights. Always verify against the handbook edition required by your project.

Where should a new detailer start?

Open Shape Lookup and Bolt Grip for daily drawing work, then Edge Distance before releasing hole schedules. For runway or mezzanine sizing, use the Engineering Checks tools with the Crane Runway Deflection guide.
