We build logical, fast, single-purpose workflow tools for niche industries — the kind of software that does one job exceptionally well instead of trying to be everything to everyone. From construction estimators and woodworkers mapping out complex cut lists to steel fabricators calculating coating coverage down to the gallon, every product we ship is designed around a real workflow, not a feature checklist.

The test we apply to every feature is whether it shortens the distance between a question a tradesperson actually asks and the number they need to write on a drawing, a purchase order, or a cut list. A shop foreman checking whether a W21×44 clears a duct does not want an account, an onboarding tour, or a fourteen-field form. They want the depth. That constraint drives everything below.

Who publishes this site

Logic App Labs is an independent, self-funded software studio operating as a US limited liability company. It is a small operation rather than an agency or a content farm: the same people who write the calculation code write the reference articles, answer the support email, and maintain the shape and species tables. There is no outside investment, no sponsored placement, and no third-party content syndicated onto this domain.

Where the subject knowledge comes from

Our two tool families exist because we worked in the workflows they serve. StructLogic grew out of structural steel detailing and fabrication: reading DSTV NC1 files off a CNC line, chasing plate and bolt weights for a takeoff, resolving hip and valley trim angles on pre-engineered metal buildings, and checking crane runway deflection against the limits an owner will actually accept. Those are the problems that produced our DSTV NC1 guide and the Tekla drawing checklist product, not a keyword list.

SawdustLogic comes from the woodworking and cabinetmaking side: board foot pricing when the yard quotes nominal thickness, kerf loss that quietly eats a sheet goods yield, cabinet door overlay math that has to agree with the hinge you already bought, and shelf deflection over a span that looked fine on paper. Each free calculator on the site maps to a decision one of us has had to make with a tape measure in hand.

How we handle the lookup tables

Several tools publish reference data rather than a calculation: the AISC shape database tabulates 2,311 sections across fourteen families, the bar joist database covers 118 K-series and LH-series designations, and the wood species database lists Janka hardness and air-dry density. We hold those to three rules.

  • Published values, not derived ones. Section properties follow AISC Manual conventions and joist designations follow SJI naming. We do not interpolate missing rows or fabricate a value to fill a column — properties the source tables do not carry are marked N/A.
  • The data is on the page. Every row renders as HTML you can read, copy, or search with your browser's find command. Nothing important is hidden behind a script that has to run first.
  • Stated as reference, not as engineering. These are detailing and estimating aids. Nominal depth is a group label, mill tolerances move real dimensions, and Janka averages vary with growth conditions. Load-bearing decisions need graded material, current code, and a qualified designer.

How the free tools stay free

The browser tools on this domain and on our four sister sites — convert.logicapplabs.com, calculate.logicapplabs.com, charts.logicapplabs.com, and dev.logicapplabs.com — are funded two ways: display advertising on the free pages, and one-time Pro licenses for people who would rather work ad-free or offline. That is the whole model. We do not sell or broker the data you type into a calculator, and we have no interest in it.

The technical consequence matters more than the promise. Conversions, calculations, and chart rendering run client-side in your browser, so the file you drop into a converter is processed on your own machine and never uploaded. A fabricator can run a bolt weight takeoff on drawings they are not allowed to email outside the shop. The Privacy Policy spells out exactly what is and is not collected, including how advertising cookies work.

Buying a Pro license removes the ads and, for the desktop products, removes the browser's memory ceiling and file size limits. It is the same tooling either way.
