Inspecting DSTV / NC1 Files Before the Machine

DSTV (NC1) is the steel industry’s numerical control exchange format for beams, columns, and plates. Controllers and CAM software read BO, SI, AK, KO, and cut blocks to drive saws, drills, and robots. Opening an NC1 in a 3D viewer lets detailers and programmers catch wrong hole gages, missing notches, or reversed profiles before the file hits the line — without uploading proprietary job data to a server.

How to use this viewer

  1. Export or copy the .nc1 / .nc from Tekla, SDS/2, Advance Steel, or your CAM preprocessor.
  2. Drop the file onto the viewer (or use the file picker). Parsing and mesh generation run entirely in your browser.
  3. Orbit the model to verify profile type, overall length, hole groups, notches, and saw cuts against the shop drawing.

What to check on every NC1

Confirm the profile mark matches the piece mark on the drawing, and that flange/web orientation matches the assembly. Hole blocks should align with bolt gages and edge distances; staggered patterns are easy to flip left/right in export. Notches and coping cuts (AK/KO) should clear the connecting member without over-cutting the flange. Saw cuts and marking text help the fitter — if they are missing or at the wrong station, fix the model or post-processor mapping before nesting.

Do my NC1 files upload to Logic App Labs?

No. Parsing and rendering are client-side. Closing the tab discards the in-memory model; nothing is stored on our servers.

Which DSTV versions are supported?

Typical Tekla-style NC1 profiles with common contour and hole blocks. Exotic or vendor-specific extensions may not render every feature — cross-check against your CAM when something looks incomplete.

Can I edit the NC1 here?

This tool is a viewer for QA, not an NC editor. Fix geometry in the detailing model or approved CAM workflow, then re-export.

Why does a hole look off compared to the PDF?

Check units, profile zero end, and whether the export used assembly vs single-part orientation. Also verify the drawing revision matches the NC1 you dropped.

Does this replace DSTV viewers in CAM software?

It is a fast browser check for detailers and PMs. Machine programmers should still validate in the controller/CAM stack that drives production.
